This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Due to Covid-19, my students are all learning from home. The only books they have access to are eBooks from the public library or a random selection from various online websites. Unfortunately their options are very limited. In my classroom, our read aloud is the most important part of our day because I am able to demonstrate reading strategies, provide important information in the content areas and most importantly facilitate a love of reading. This continues to be true during distance learning. Every morning, I wake up and record a read aloud for the class. Sometimes, I even do more than one a day. My students and their parents report that this has been very successful and makes them feel connected to the class and keeps them motivated to read.
My Project
I want to have some new and exciting books to read aloud to my students during this time of distance learning. I am planning on using these read aloud books during the summer as well, so that my students can continue to feel connected to the class and the school. This will also help to keep their love of reading alive. These books are also perfect for beginning the school year as well. When we eventually do return to class, these books can be integrated into my classroom library and be available for students to check out and enjoy at home.
