Our school is a diverse and caring family. I see all of the students at our K-6 school as their technology teacher. It amazes me how tolerating and accepting our students are towards each other. They love to create and be challenged in all areas. Technology is a huge motivator, but not always easily accessible to all of our students.
Our students enjoy the hands-on activities and lessons and their smiles are so brilliant when they 'get it'!
Our students are also learning to value their place in our community and their citizenship.
My Project
Younger students love to learn through stories because they don't see it as learning. Imagine sitting on the carpet surrounding your teacher as she reads a story that inspires your imagination while at the same time supporting your craving for computers. My class needs twelve children's picture books that have a technology theme, like "Clicker the Cat" and "Unplugged Ninja" to help teach the importance of being smart with our devices.
Fostering the love of storytime with picture books based on technology is a great way to support reading skills while support technology standards; even when the technology is 'down'.
We've all been there. You have a wonderful lesson planned and ready to go and for some reason, your technology is not cooperating. With these picture books, I can quickly grab a book, and the learning can continue. Using children's books in the technology classroom is a win-win situation by supporting literacy and technology.
