This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a special education teacher in an integrated co-teaching classroom, I am always looking for ways to engage my diverse learners in the lessons. For our next reading unit, we will be reading Front Desk by Kelly Yang. The students will be listening to this book as the teacher reads it aloud - but in a classroom of students who learn differently, this can be challenging for many of out students. Our students fit into many different learning modalities - and listening to/hearing a book read aloud does not fit all of our students' needs. Many students benefit from holding the book in their hands, reading the words along in their head, and making sense of the text visually as they are hearing it.
I would love to be able to provide my students with their own copies of the novel.
By having the book in front of them, students will be better able to understand the text and follow along as the book is read aloud. Students will also be able to use their individual books to work on related tasks and extension activities to compliment our read alouds. Please help me provide my students with a class set of the novel Front Desk by Kelly Yang. It is a great book, filled with plot twists and rich characters that my diverse students can identify with!
