Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into the classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything. I want them to be successful in school and in everyday life.
I teach at a Title I school in Kentucky where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Half of my class are English Language learners who love to come to school. Many of my students receive backpack food on the weekend and come from a very low socioeconomic home. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
Can you imagine life without having any books? Books provide knowledge and give students an opportunity to learn about themselves and their surroundings. My students enjoy story time and read alouds. They love when I read them books either fiction or non fiction.
Reading aloud helps students to love reading!
I have read a few books that I had to borrow that my students loved, and were 100% engaged in. Jan Brett is an excellent writer whose books are geared toward my students! They love the characters and the story lines.
These books are so easy to use to teach the common core standards for literature. You can use every book of his to teach almost every standard such as plot, characters, character traits, rules, setting, main idea, cause and effect, and a lot more.
