This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in a middle city neighborhood, called Pilsen, which is predominately Latino. They are fortunate to be a part of a school that is Dual Language, and they have the opportunity to continue to flourish and be bilingual students. This school year will begin differently, and our students will be learning from home virtually. During this time our students are facing various social emotional concerns.
Students will be able to join me in a Google Meet session for a read-aloud of a children's book that focuses on a Social Emotional topic, such as ways to effectively cope with everyday stressors.
I will also connect with them virtually where I will teach them a SEL lesson. This will be a great way for me to connect with them virtually during this time of remote learning.
My Project
My goal for this project is to provide students with the opportunity to connect with me virtually through read-aloud, discussions and activities that relate to the topics in the books. We are a Dual Language school so you will also be giving me the chance to purchase Bilingual/Spanish books that focus on Social Emotional topics as well.
Through these readings and lessons students will learn ways to discuss their feelings, and how to cope with all of these changes that they have experienced.
It is important for me to be able to help my students understand their feelings, and for them to know that I am here to support them.
