Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom demographic is diverse. My students are in the most restrictive setting because of their severe language, emotional, and cognitive delays. They are often unable to regulate their feelings, and many exhibit severe behavior issues. One might wonder how, with all these challenges, they get academic work done. I praise them often and find something that they do well to keep them motivated.

Most of my students are boys, and they learn best through tactile and kinesthetic activities.

Putting all these challenges aside, this is a group of students who really come in every day eager to learn. This is why I feel they should be exposed to as much as I can give them.

My Project

As an educator I had to change my style and what felt comfortable for many years, in order to provide a learning environment for my students.

I am looking for materials that will keep their interest up during days when they must learn from home.

Thus far, this has been a challenge.

This is why I am requesting material for their home use so that they can continue reading and learning. Scholastic Magazines are excellent tools for engaging students in thought provoking discussion. They also naturally lends themselves to vocabulary development.

Please consider funding my project in order to help provide reading materials for my students.
