Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are English Language Learners from South Central Los Angeles. They come from a low socioeconomic neighborhood, and most are from single family homes. Although my students sometimes struggle with the language barrier, they are motivated learners who value their education and truly believe in our school motto, "Never, never give up." They come to school excited to learn every single day and look forward to the opportunities that a good education has to offer. They are amazing kids!
My Project
My students are struggling readers, and I am always trying to find different things for them to read. This Time for Kids magazine will be ideal. Not only will they have access to quality nonfiction reading on a weekly basis, but they will also learn about current events at a level that they can understand.
My students will greatly benefit from all the activities that come with the magazines.
They'll learn about social studies, science, math, historical events, and people who have shaped our world. It will increase their reading comprehension, motivate them to read, make them more confident students, and give them something to share with their families.
