This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Reading science & history textbooks might not be the most engage way for first graders to learn about those topics. My 22 first graders enjoy illustration and photos which helps them comprehend what they're learning. It is challenging when the text that is being used doesn't capture their attention.

This school year I have 22 talkative first graders.

They are full of energy in the class and out on the playground. They are really eager to show me that they can read and the new things they have learned. The school is located in a small community where the majority of the population speak Spanish. Many of the students don't go out of their neighborhood, so lack exposer to many things like can hinder their learning. But when I introduce something new to them it is wonderful to witness their reaction and amazement to new topic.

My Project

With the requested Scholastic News magazine subscription, my students will be able experience and explorer new about science and history with the use of the magazine on a weekly basis. Since many of my students lack to resource go on vacation and experience different cultures, animals, and places the magazine will provided them some exposure to the outside word. With the magazine my students will read and learn about different topics in science and history. I will teach them how to write article reviews, teach them text structure like compare and contrast and main idea and details.

My project will make a difference because it will allow my students to discover topics in science and history in an non convention way ( other than textbook).

They will enjoy the photograph and illustration which will further spark their interest further.
