Read All About It: Staying Current in Middle School!
My students need a Time for Kids magazine subscription (two different grade levels) and Adhesive Poster Paper to learn about current events and share what they know.
Imagine being a strong, successful student, only to arrive in a new country where you struggle just to read or write. It can be frustrating, but my students tackle these difficulties with enthusiasm and resilience.
My English Language Learners are energetic, curious learners and hard-workers.
This year, my students come from six different countries and have a wide variety of language ability and school experience. They need as much time practice reading, writing and collaborating with each other as possible.
My Project
My students are interested and curious about the world around them, but can struggle with the specialized vocabulary of newspapers and magazines.
I want to help my students stay updated on current events by providing comprehensible and current magazines.
I am requesting a subscription of Times for Kids, and poster paper so they can collaborate and share news with their classmates. They will be able to use the magazines for reading comprehension, vocabulary building and research ideas. 10 copies will allow each student to have their own copy in class and the different grade levels will help differentiate for our wide-level of English ability.
