My Students
How do you make reading fun, exciting, and enriching for a group of students who struggle to deal with the plight of poverty? That is a question that I face every day as I work to inspire a group of students whose reality is often dark, grim, and filled with a lack of worldly experiences.
My students live in the inner city.
They attend a school that services families who do not have much. Many live in single parent homes. Most get their main meals from school. All of them want to connect to something more than the harsh reality of their day to day lives.
Their story is one of pain, struggle, and resilience. Scarred by the wounds of life, my students come to my classroom with obstacles that even some adults may find hard to overcome. Strengthened and encouraged through my love and support for them, my students work hard to achieve and deserve the best that can be offered to them.
They are not looking for pity, but for love and support. They are not downtrodden by life's rough courses but are motivated to be as I have taught them to be...the best.
My Project
21st Century teachers bring learning to life in their classrooms by using useful and engaging instructional technology. A HearAll Assessment Recorder would help me to bring the magical world of reading to life for my students. I would be able to record them reading and working in small groups which I would be able to further use to differentiate and improve classroom instruction. Data collected would be used to help inform parents and students of reading progress. The joy of hearing their own voices will inspire my students to read more and motivate them to enjoy the dynamics of effective fluency.
The small group reading lesson book would help me to implement effective research based lessons to my small groups. Such instruction will improve their test scores and give students meaningful activities that will help them to become better readers.
These materials will enrich my classroom experience, instill a joy of reading in my students' hearts, and make first grade magical!
In my classroom, I teach my students that practice makes permanent.
My students need to practice effective reading in order to become effective readers. I cannot afford the materials needed for them to practice. I need your help! Help me help them by giving to my classroom today! Donations for this cause will empower a generation by making learning in first grade a magical experience!
