Over 75% of my school is classified as "high needs" and for more than 50% of the students, English is not their first language. I am a special education teacher and sometimes the traditional ways of teaching students to read (print-to-speech) are simply not showing the results in my students that I would like to see! Recently, I learned about a program called EBLI (Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction). EBLI is a speech-to-print approach to teaching reading that is having amazing results.
EBLI uses rules free instruction at an accelerated pace to help students catch up more quickly.
Instead of looking at letters on a page and matching sounds to them, EBLI Instruction matches sounds in a word to the letters that represent them - from spoken to written words. For some of my students (over the next 20 years), this approach could be truly life-changing!
Your donation to my project would help me get trained in EBLI and obtain the teacher manual and student materials. I am so excited to get started with this speech-to-print approach to teaching reading, because I truly believe that this may be the key to reaching some of my students who have struggled to read for so long. Thank you!
