Reaching the Common Core in Science

My students need a library in their science classroom so that they can reach the common core standards in reading and writing in science.

My Students

The new common core standards require more rigor in reading and writing in all of the subject classes. The students need materials so that they can reach these standards.

We are a new, charter school in New York.

We are classified as a Title-One school. Although the students are from diverse backgrounds, they are all excited about science! We have inclusive settings in every class in our school. The students love exploring in science!

My Project

These books will inspire the students to engage in literacy activities in science. As the standards demand more rigor in reading and writing, these books will help the students to meet these rigorous common core standards while exploring the world around them in words and pictures.

Donations to this request will allow the students to explore many different disciplines in science while reaching higher and higher toward the common core literacy standards.

The common core calls for more independent and sustained reading, so that students will become critical thinkers. These books will enable students to choose their specific area of interest in science, research their topic, and then formulate their own argument.
