Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in a program that provides them with many different forms of support: multi sensory activities and tasks. These support are much needed for my students who are eager, enthusiastic, and excited to learn. My students enjoy coming to school and like having fun, interactive tasks and activities. Students in my classroom require a few accommodations such as: big print books, multi-sensory tasks, developmentally appropriate furniture (chairs and tables), updated devices and learning applications, phonemic awareness kit or program, etc.
My students are atypical learners that should be provided with the tools to succeed in any setting or environment.
In order for me, as an educator, to provide my students the tools and strategies to become independent and successful, I need the resources that are out there. I would love to create visual aids in color to assist them in their daily school experiences. My students will also benefit from having books that are relevant and developmentally appropriate. Currently, we do not have big books, little books, decodable books, etc. I have been in the special education program for the last 3 years and have relied on outdated resources that former teachers have left behind.
My Project
My students will be able to work interactively and manipulate the calendars in order for them to learn organizational skills. We work in small groups in order to maximize learning and to make it manageable for our learners.
My learners deserve to be exposed to different modalities of learning by using all 5 senses, if possible.
Being able to stand up and participate in our classroom is a regular practice. The students feel more productive and successful when they are able to manipulate and take ownership of their learning.
Providing my students with different phonological awareness activities will level the playing field when it comes to reading development and success.
