My students need an online reading subscription to keep them engaged in reading throughout the school year and a cozy place to sit!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine coming back to school and you are more worried than excited. The thought of having to sit and follow rules all day is overwhelming.
My students love to learn but they do so in different ways than other children.
They have a range of disabilities that make learning and adjusting to new routines challenging for them. Many of my students are aware that they learn differently and because of this, they feel as though they cannot perform in the classroom, which causes them to worry about failure.
Many of the students I teach come from bilingual homes, take care of younger siblings after school, and move to different schools often. It is these challenges that affect their literacy skills and make learning activities they already struggle with, even harder. They are willing to work hard but need the appropriate supports to do so.
My Project
This year my students will make personal reading goals and will learn the importance of reading and the impact that reading will have on their future. An online reading subscription like RAZ Plus will help my students practice their reading daily in school and at home. They will be able to choose from numerous book titles at their individual reading level. My students love using the computer and are more motivated to read when they can do so using technology. The program also offers reading rewards which will further engage them. RAZ Plus will help me better teach my students by tracking the data and progress of 30+ students, allowing me more one on one time to practice reading and comprehension skills. I am also requesting a mat for students who choose to read traditional books to sit on and enjoy reading.
