My students need course companion books for IB Visual Arts to increase understanding of complex art concepts and as a template for this rigorous arts class.
Ours is a public magnet school. Students travel from all over town to attend our school. We are not without our struggles, especially when it comes to the school budget. Despite everything, though, our students achieve. Over 90% go on to college; 10% get full scholarships to college. Our students are diverse and revel in their differences. Groups of friends are multicultural. They are engaged and very bright. These great kids give me hope for the future. Teaching my students is so rewarding. I strive to help them become more creative.

Students have no prerequisite to take IB Art. Because so many schools throughout the city have cut art, some students enter the class without ever having had an art class. This is cause for a great deal of catch up. IB Art is a 2-year course and in that time students make art, research art, and keep a journal. They write about art all the time. We often take trips to local museums. The art experience is full of opportunities for learning.
My Project
Our school's IB Diploma Program class in Visual Arts needs course companion books to help students navigate through complex requirements in IB Art. This comprehensive guide clearly explains art concepts as well as informs students about researching art and artists. Students learn methods to clearly express themselves as they write about their own art.
Over a 2 year period, IB Art students create a large group of artworks, use journals to record their experiences in art, and investigate and compare artworks.
This is an intense course. We need the course companion book to keep us on track. It is a template for coursework requirements. In addition, we will be able to use this text year after year.
