My students need Hot Dots pens and comprehension cards, alphabet sound buttons, comprehension journals, and a variety of other literacy materials for them to use independently.
There is no better feeling as a teacher than watching your students achieve their goal. I aim to create an independent, take ownership of learning environment in my classroom where students know exactly what they are working on and have the materials and adult support to help them.
I have a wonderful group of diverse kindergarten students this year.
There are five different languages spoken in my classroom and students from many different cultures. In just one week of school thus far, my students have really shown me their excitement and enthusiasm for learning new things.
My Project
Students will each be given a literacy goal they are working towards. This can range from learning letters and sounds to reading fluency and comprehending stories. I will be working with small groups of students with the same goal to help them learn that skill. When they are not working with me, they will be doing various activities to help them reach their goal. I need Hot Dot comprehension cards and pens for students to practice comprehension independently. I also need a phonemic awareness kit for students to practice rhymes and syllables independently. I need alphabet sound buttons to help students learn their sounds. I need comprehension journals and language centers for my classroom. All of these materials will help my students reach their literacy goals aligned with the new common core standards. Many of these resources will be used independently, and some will be used by volunteers working with the students.
Motivating students is a huge part of the classroom environment and I really want my students to be excited about learning and about reaching that next level.
Nothing motivates kindergarten students more than showing them special materials they get to use to reach their goals. Your donations will help my kindergarten class become motivated self learners and it will help to foster their love for learning and school.
