Do you remember what it was like when you were pulled away from your class to work in a small group and you felt embarrassed because your classmates noticed you didn't understand a lesson? Well, how much cooler would it be to work with high tech Sony Tablet to be able to work on math and other concepts?
My 28 students are so diverse academically.
I have students who don't speak English and I have students who are highly gifted. With so many ranges, I had to divide them into groups and differentiate their instruction. By doing so, my students are receiving more hands-on materials and activities that correlate to their learning. Without any technology in my classroom at the moment, it has been extremely challenging to reach my English Learners with enough language support.
My Project
The Sony Tablet is far beyond any teacher's expectation. Being able to download free books with audio and access the many applications that are so user-friendly really would make any classroom much more manageable. My third graders today respond to technology and find it exciting and from their generation. "Small Group" time with the teacher would no longer be an embarrassment but instead a reward. Students would feel excited to be able to practice their grammar and math concepts on such an amazing device.
This project is so important to my class and my future students.
It has been a difficult time recently in our district and with the increase in class sizes, and less funding, my students are receiving fewer and fewer needed resources to help them succeed. If I can impact them one child at a time in my small groups, then I have made a difference for them for years to come.
