Students in my class are given the opportunity to read books based on their personal preference. This can be difficult for some below level readers and above level readers due to the level of the books currently in my classroom library.
I am currently teaching 5th grade in an intermediate school that houses students in 4th and 5th grade with a very diverse population.
Some children in my class are reading significantly below grade level. Catching these students up to their peers is a challenging task and having books that interest the below level readers is exactly what is needed to allow them to soar into the 6th grade. I also have some students that are reading above grade level and these students need books that challenge them and continue to foster their love of reading.
My Project
There are many students in my classroom that are reading below grade level. At the same time there are also students in my classroom that are reading above the 5th grade level. My students love spending time in the classroom library looking for the "just right book" this can be challenging for the above and below level readers due to the selection of books that I currently have. Having many books above and below the 5th grade level will help below level readers practice enough to catch up to their peers and allow the above level readers to continue to explore harder texts.
Showing students that books on their level are part of our classroom library will continue to motivate them to love to read.
Please donate to my classroom and help me motivate my students to be the best reader they can be!
