My Students

Due to No Child Left Behind, science in elementary school has been put on the back burner. I want to fill that void in their education by offering hands-on science learning experiences. I want my students to experience the joy of learning about astronomy and become star gazers.

Eighty-Five percent of our students receive a free or reduced lunch.

We also have students who are homeless. Many of our students' parents are in the military. Most of the students' families have very limited resources and are unable to provide experiences that will enrich their Childs education. We held a fundraiser to cover the costs of a field trip I planned for this year. I can not ask parents to provide anything to enrich their child's education because they lack the funds.

My Project

The book Star Jumper will transport the student to a far away Galaxy. They will experience, through this lesson, all about the solar system. The students will study Constellations and create and name their own. They will also construct a spaceship out of recycled materials. The students will read their books inside the spaceship using flashlights.

In order for schools in the US to compete globally we must do a better job educating our children in the area of science.

I think this unit of study will provide a meaningful lesson and open the door for future discovery.
