Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The words "I can't," they are two words a teacher never wants to hear. I want my students to reach for the stars and be all that they can be.
My students are bright, curious, and excited to begin school.
They are part of loving homes with parents who want the best for them, but are economically disadvantaged and English is not their primary language. Our students are part of the "Transitional Kindergarten" program California has created for young kindergarten students who are not ready for the demands of traditional kindergarten. Because our students are young and from disadvantaged homes, they often begin school lacking skills necessary for success.
My Project
I cringe when I hear a student of mine say I can't. Or when a student will tell me that he or she cant sing because someone told them they have a terrible voice. Low self esteem, it even occurs in preschoolers. I want my students to gain confidence and feel secure and proud of who they are. I have my students speak in front of their classmates as much as possible, reciting poems, songs etc.. A portable PA system with a cordless microphone will put an entertaining spin on oral presentations. It will also be useful for playing our songs on our iPod for dancing and singing.
Speaking in front of an audience is not easy.
I believe a PA system will give my students the confidence that they need in order to build their self esteem. There is something about holding a microphone that gives a student a bolt of courage. Self worth needs to be fostered at a young age and I intend to do just that.
