My Students

I teach over 100 English language learners in grades K-4 in an inner-city school in Ohio. Their English language proficiency differs from emerging to progressing. Their past educational experiences range from non-existing to limited. As a result, their instructional needs are very diverse. They work hard and are excited to learn.

However, their immense love of learning encourages them to overcome their language and cultural barriers.

It is very satisfying to see these children acquire a new language, learn the customs of a new culture, and grow into fully functioning students in the regular classrooms.

My Project

This set of eight Big Books Reach Level A will allow the teacher to meet the needs of the beginner and early intermediate English Learners in the classroom. Level A caters to the needs of the students in grades K-2 that are just learning to speak English. Reach is a great series for teaching language and literacy that provides ample opportunities for the English Learners to practice their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills with each lesson individually, in pairs, and small group settings. This set will be a great introduction for each of the eight units of study included with the Reach series. These big books provide the much needed background knowledge that some students need when learning new topics in a new culture.
