Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I will be teaching 17 amazing first graders this year. They are all bilingual and are learning to read, write and speak English. Our school is situated in an urban setting that is comprised of large Latinx population. They have proven to be resilient this past year during virtual learning. My students along with their parents have worked tirelessly and have gone above and beyond to learn their foundational skills in reading such as the alphabet, the concept of print, phonological awareness, phonics, high-frequency words, and fluency. This year they will continue to learn to read in English and explore different literature. I am hoping to provide them with a variety of books from different genres in order to support their learning.

My Project

Students will have access to their own classroom library with a collection of books from different Genres.

Students will be able to select books that capture their interest and are at their reading level.

the library will support reading inside and outside of school. They will read books independently in class or with a friend. They will also be able to take them home to read to their family. Students will meet in groups to talk and discuss what they have learned and will share books they love with their peers.
