As a K-5 learning strategist, my room is an extended home to many students on campus. Most often, the students who come to me are struggling academically and/or emotionally, and they need an unconventional space where they can refocus, learn, and decompress without much distraction.
My goal is to re-engage students with a relaxing reading corner where we can work together on interventions and get lost in our favorite stories as we decompress from classroom stresses.
I seek to design a space students look forward to coming to, that stores their materials for easy access, and makes them feel special when the big world can leave them feeling lost.
The incredible students I support often face challenges many of us couldn't conceive until adulthood. They deserve the extras that help them feel excited about coming to school and working with different teachers outside of their classroom. They deserve new, comfortable furniture that sends the messsage, "We care about your environment. We care about you. YOU are worth it!"
