This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach English language learners in a Title I-funded, public school in New York City. My students come from Hispanic backgrounds and live in homes where Spanish is the dominant language. My students are always excited to learn new things. They face challenges in learning the English language; however, they have the willingness to learn and do their absolute best every day.
As an ELL teacher, I get the opportunity to work with my students for multiple years and I always love to see the growth in their academics from year to year.
I teach second grade ESL/ENL students. The books featured in the Reading A-Z program provide many books at different levels that students are able to read. Students will be able to receive a copy of the books as they are able to be printed. The books are also available online so students can read at home. Many of the titles are offered in other languages such as Spanish and French. Students will be able to have a copy of the book in their home language to help support their learning.
Parents and family members will be able to support the student at home especially if English is not their first language. Books are also able to be projected on an interactive whiteboard.
This is great for whole group and small group instruction. This will help to keep students engaged and love reading! Assessments are also provided so having assessments will help me know what my students need in order to continue improving in their reading.
