This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like not being able to find reading materials that related to you when you were a kid? My students love to read fun interesting material, but often times it is hard to find. Scholastic Magazines target the interests of students and makes reading more enjoyable.
My students are amazing kids who love learning.
They attend a public charter school in a low-income neighborhood. After taking a survey, I found that many of them come from one-parent households or only live on a one-parent income. They are learning how powerful education is. Everyday, they lift my spirits and fill my heart with joy because of their enthusiasm with reading and discovering new things.
My Project
If I can inspire my students to read more, I know how helpful that can be to them. Investing in Scholastic Magazines will expose them to a variety of genres, prompt them to think more critically, and give them experiences through reading that they might not get otherwise. I have started a reading initiative at my school this year, and the more they get into reading, the more resources we need.
I can't stress enough how important reading is.
Most of my students do not own more than ten books, sometimes making reading difficult if they do not have the resources to do so. The more they read, the brighter their futures can become.
