This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
While I haven't started the school year yet, I know the upcoming 3rd graders very well. Having had several students now for the 2nd or even 3rd time (after being my students in Prek and/or kindergarten,) I know this group is something special. You ever have those students that you remember for the rest of your teaching career? The kids names you find that you often refer to and laugh to yourself about over the funny or amazing things they did? That's these kids. These were my first group, the first group that made me realize how challenging, how scary, how incredible teaching can be, and we're lucky to, "meet" again this year.
My Project
As a new third grade teacher, I've sort of been given the bare minimum when it comes to high quality leveled books. Prior to this year, most of the books I had were picture books targeted for kindergarteners and content that was age appropriate for them alone. Now I face quite a challenge, as I scrap together books that are age appropriate for 7-9 year olds and that aren't fall apart at the seams. Help me build a suitable library for my students this year so they can learn and live in a world full of variety and develop a love for reading.
