My Project

Hello, my name is Emily Reyna. I am a second-year 6th-grade teacher. I was made aware of DonorsChoose by a Professional Development I attended yesterday. One of the classes focused on how to make learning more fun for kids. Our presenters included STEM games in their morning hours to have kids excited to come to school.

As a 6th-grade teacher, I see a lot of kids miss school because they simply do not want to come.

I believe that by making my classroom feel like a second home for them, I can make them excited to be at school by providing them with opportunities to use a variety of STEM materials and items such as Play-Doh and building blocks.

During testing or any time my students are in my classroom for a long period of time, I try to feed them. Many students do not eat breakfast in the mornings because they either come late to school, don't like the food, or are not aware that breakfast is free for them every day. By having snacks available for my kids, I'm able to create a special connection with my students by knowing that I will always have something for them to eat, no matter how big or small it may be.
