Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In the heart of a bustling, predominantly working-class Bronx neighborhood, our Title I school brings together a vibrant group of students who do so much to love, care, and support each other despite their own experiences with adversity. Whether it’s being there for a friend who’s having a tough day, helping out a teacher with errands, or offering to tutor a classmate in class, my students are undoubtedly there for each other.
Research has shown that acts of kindness can lead to increased feelings of well-being, mental health, and connectedness.
The materials from this project will go towards the creation of a colorful Random Acts of Kindness bulletin board that will invite and inspire students passing through the hallways to do a random act of kindness for somebody else in the school. Examples of these random acts of kindness can be writing a peer a thoughtful note, cleaning up litter, or giving somebody an unexpected compliment.
The goal of this project is to show students that no gesture is too small, and that anyone can make a positive impact or help someone who may be feeling unwell. Another hope is that sharing Random Acts of Kindness inspire and teach students about the immense power of kind gestures and community-care.
As a community service-driven school, our students come to us passionate about becoming kind-hearted change makers who employ love in their determination to make positive impacts in their communities. Showing students that their random acts of kindness can go a long way is just one way to share awareness of love within our community.
