My students are part of a K - 12 school where over 40 percent of the students receive free or reduced-price lunches.

Our school excels at testing, despite the obstacles the students have overcome. We are rated as one of the top schools in the state on standardized tests, with our third graders performing far above the other students in the state.

Our students are proud of their achievements and ready to learn and lead as they move into the future.

My Project

There is never enough time for our teachers to cover everything in every subject, and have fun projects to follow through with the learning.

As part of the motion and force Common Core requirements, our grade level would like to sponsor an after-school club that would take the student’s knowledge and allow them to use it to experiment with potential and kinetic energy, practice with estimating measurement and distance, record data, and present their findings from research projects.

They will have the opportunity to explore, explain, elaborate and evaluate. We are requesting a variety of miniature cars as well as sections of track for the students use. They will be experimenting with various configurations to collect data about their creations. The students will be considering the differences in their cars (weight and size) as well as how heights may change their figures.

We will be starting an after-school club for our grade level, as well as opening it up to other grade levels that are interested. During the club time we will create ramps, tracks and loops to time our cars during races. The students will use the data they collect (length of track, loops, size and weight of car, as well as height of ramp) to determine how force and motion are used. We will take time to research live action car races that are examples of our creations, and compare that data to our own.

Through our club we hope that our students will continue their interest and knowledge of force and motion.
