About My Students
Our 'Fuel Up Team' of students want to help make recess fun by adding sports equipment to encourage physical activity.
A group of students and myself attended a day long workshop sponsored by GenYOUTH, SAP and Fuel Up To Play 60. The students were asked to identify a problem (around health & wellness) within their school and come up with a solution. The addition of new recess equipment was at the top of their list!
The 'Fuel Up Team' of students will have to oversee the distribution, collection, and maintenance of the recess equipment. They also plan on organizing game areas that they would oversee to encourage a socialized recess program that is school wide. Students will have to create a master plan of the recess yard space planning to ensure designated game areas and communicate that to the school student body. This project encourages and requires teamwork!
In Their Own Words
We are trying to make recess time FUN for everyone! Recess time is an opportunity for us to run around and play with our friends. The addition of soccer balls, basketballs, and bases for kick ball will reduce problems out at recess and get us more active!
As members of the 'Fuel Up Team', we will be able to make a positive impact on our school environment! This project will help us ramp up our recess and encourage kids to be physically active while having fun at the same time.
Today, children are obese and overweight. We tend to live a very sedentary lifestyles. Did you know that we need 60 minutes of physical activity a day? The new recess equipment will help encourage kids to run, play, socialize, and learn to get along with one another so that when we head back into the classroom we are ready to learn!
