Rambunctious Readers

My students need a class set of "The Giver" and "Animal Farm", as well as a class set of dictionaries in order to expand their reading and vocabulary.

My Students

Do you remember being in school and loving the books that your teacher shared with you? I can still remember my teacher reading "Where the Red Ferns Grows" to me in fourth grade. I want my students to share that joy of literature and reading with me.

My students all attend an alternative school, which means that they have been sent out of the traditional high school setting for many different reasons.

They are very low income students who have not had much exposure to a positive experience with education. Our school tries alternative methods of teaching to reach these alternative students. Our students don't think inside the box so we don't either.

My Project

Utilizing "The Giver" and "Animal Farm" will open the door to new worlds for my students. I hope that by sharing some great books, it will ignite a fire in them to read and learn more. The dictionaries will be a wonderful tool to help them expand their vocabularies and to find meaning in new words. The more they read, the higher their vocabulary and the higher the test scores and opportunities for college. Please help me open the door to these students' futures.
