My students need a class set of the uplifting AND emotionally charged book, A Fish in a Tree, and the audio CD of the book to build our character education program.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students come from diverse situations. Some families are migrant farmers in the area and many students speak English as their second language. We are a Title I school with many students on our free and reduced lunch program. My students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite these challenges, I strive to keep learning fun, creative, meaningful, engaging, and highly motivating.
Our school district is run on the motto "Growing and Learning Together." I work hard at bringing my classroom into the 21st Century so that students will be prepared to grow and learn for their best possible future.
In addition to homelessness and poverty, many of my students have learning challenges. I teach general education, learning handicapped, autistic, RSP, students with ADHD, and GATE students. I want my classroom to be flexible and have the needed resources for personalized learning.
My Project
I would greatly appreciate donations towards literature sets to help teach and promote tolerance and acceptance to my 5th grade students. These novels include "A Fish in a Tree", by Lynda Hunt and "We are all Wonders" and "Auggie & Me" by R.J. Palacio. My Students absolutely love to read together. They collaborate, develop critical thinking, and fine tune reading skills.
I want to give opportunities to my students that will help teach them the value of tolerance and acceptance in my classroom that they can take out into the real world.
In a society that easily focuses on differences as negatives, help me shape our future generation to be kind, compassionate people who accept each other's differences and who practices kindness, understanding, and compassion.
