At an elementary school with more than 900 students, it's hard to stand out. Most of our school population are English Language learners and have immigrated to America within the last five years.
One of the first things we learn is that we are ARTISTS!
We build a community and a safe space where they have the freedom to express themselves and think creatively. It is a place where they are challenged to be risk takers and encouraged to learn from their mistakes.
My Project
Having a set of iPads will greatly impact Artists' learning. One way they will be used is to enhance various Science experiences. From being able to capture slow-process landforms with the creation of stop-motion & slow-motion videos, using augmented reality on plant and animal structures and functions, creatively expressing themselves through the Engineering Design Process on force and motion, to writing code!!!
My project is the tip of the iceberg in not only having my Artist's actively participating in STREAM, but the next step in creating a student-centered classroom.
During 5E lessons, they are able to use the set of iPads to access textbooks, Nearpods, articles, and videos that are hand chosen to best explain Scientific and Mathematic phenomena. Along with that, they will be used as a center during Math that through various apps will have the ability to differentiate lessons according to students' readiness level. Additionally, they are able to collaborate with their fellow Artists through Google Classroom and/or the Cloud. With these iPads the sky's the limit!
