Raising the Bar on Reading!

My students need these materials to gain enthusiasm for reading. Most materials that they can read appear to be what they call "baby books'. They need exposure to materials that appear more complex.

My Students

I work with 20 wonderful students who are in need of supplemental reading sources to support their literacy development. The problem is that our school has no Title 1 Funding. We need more high interest books with lower reading levels to inspire the students to read more. My students are at a disadvantage just because of the school they attend. If they attended other schools within our district who do have Title 1 funding they would have more appropriate reading materials.

My Project

I will build excitement about each novel by including nonfiction material about the setting of each book. The students will have an increased desire to read these materials as the books have topics that are relevant to students of their age.

The more a child enjoys reading the greater the chance that he or she will become a life long reader and learner.

The students' learning will be enhanced by contributing to a blog on my website and by creating a digital project about each novel. (Each time a novel is featured, I will include a statement that acknowledges Donors Choose as the funding the source of our digital projects.)
