This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

February’s Mission of the Month is “Speak Out: Raise Awareness about a Problem in Your Community.”

We have noticed an issue we want to improve in our community.

By learning about the importance of recycling with others, raising awareness, and trying to get that problem solved, my students will have a part in making things better.

The materials I am requesting include a variety of colored paper, notebooks and markers. The paper and markers will be used to create the brochures. The notebooks will be use to write about the recycling information they learn about including what items they can recycle, items they can reuse and items they can reduce. These questions are simple, but will provide students the opportunity to brainstorm ideas and reflect on their daily habits.

Then, my students will create their own brochure that will help others learn about recycling. It will include short attention-grabbing headlines. It will open with a summary of the recycling and why it matters. They will use bullet points to present the importance of recycling. After, they will learn how to include photos or artwork for visual interest and to illustrate their point. It will also include websites to learn more and action steps that readers can take to help. My students will share their recycling brochures with their families and their peers to inform them on the importance of recycling.
