Winter, spring, summer, and fall my students look forward to working in our school garden. The garden allows my third grade students, and other students in our school the opportunity to learn through hands-on, real life experiences. Our garden has become an outlet for all of our students to learn.
Our school is in a suburban area.
My students are in third grade, however our entire third and fourth grade utilize the garden. Both special education and our general education students benefit from the garden program that we have started and truly enjoy it.
My Project
These two EarthBox Ready-to-Grow kits and garden stands will be utilized inside the classroom and outside in our garden. The students will be able to observe the growing process year round and harvest vegetables that they have planted. We also have a groundhog in our outdoor garden that eats all of the plants that the students put into the ground. Therefore, these planters will allow the students to observe the entire growing process without interruption. Also, the planters can be used during the winter months when it is too cold to go outside. The resources will be used during all seasons and by all of our garden participants.
I have witnessed first-hand how our garden program benefits all of the students in our school.
These resources will enhance our life science instruction. In addition, the planters will allow the students to have a hands-on approach to learning year round. There is nothing more effective in education than being able to observe the growing process first hand.
