Rainy Day Play

My students need new indoor recess items, such as Don't Let the Bugs Fall game, Build and Learn Construction Set, and storage bins to increase their creativity while playing indoors due to inclement weather.

My Students

"Oh no, it's raining!" When the weather is not cooperating, my students have recess in our classroom. Our indoor recess items are worn out from decades of use. Replacing old items with new play sets will help develop creativity while they play.

My kindergarten students are curious, energetic 5 and 6 years old.

They attend a Title I school in a rural community. Many of my students qualify for assistance due our high poverty statistics. Recess is one of their favorite times of the day. They may think they are not learning during this time, but they are learning invaluable skills.

My Project

Research has shown that unstructured play is an important part of a young child's development. A child learns social and cooperative skills while engaging in unstructured play. They use problem solving and spatial thinking as they interact with each piece. The activity sets chosen will provide a way to develop these skill areas during indoor recess. The new activities will also create an excitement for indoor play when the weather is unfriendly or too cold.

Supporting our project to bring new items into our classroom for indoor recess helps us become problem solvers and thinkers.

It helps us learn to share and cooperate. With your support, a playing child becomes a child that is learning.
