This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am so fortunate to work in a school that supports the academic, social, emotional and vocational adaptation of skills for individuals who are on the Autism spectrum. Our students each bring to the classroom a wide array of incredible skills and needs that span the entire spectrum. They amaze me every single day with their ability to adapt to an ever changing world but also remain their true selves for the whole world to see without any apologizing. They show love and laughter in ways every day that we celebrate and seek to spread out into the community. They yearn for inclusion and acceptance into the broader world and I love the opportunity I have to help them successfully bring the world to them.
My Project
All of our students, who have Autism, love to read but often times have challenges in selecting "just right" books according to their guided reading level.
With these new book bins they help organize our classroom libraries in a more clear and organized manner for our students to navigate.
Book bins will make classroom libraries more inviting and less intimidating in supporting our students as where to begin looking for books independently according to their own reading levels.
Independence is key for our students and every chance for increased organization and visual supports brings us one step closer to achieving that goal.
