This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year I will be teaching five ICT and ENL classes, which means an abundance of scaffolding, differentiation, translating, glossaries, and reference sheets will be needed to help reach a wide range of learners. The funding of this project would help all of my students with special needs, ENL students (including newcomer immigrants), honors students, and at-risk students across my geometry and algebra courses.
This project provides an abundance of colored paper to help provide my wide range of geometry learners with color-code notes, glossaries, and reference sheets by topic and unit to differentiate and emphasize key vocabulary takeaways in our class.
The vision is that each unit would be a different color, and would result in two colored papers per unit: a "key takeaway" note sheet that they fill out throughout the unit, and a reference sheet with vocabulary translations and images pertaining to the unit. Our hope is that by the end of the year, rather than having to sift through their entire binder to determine what to study, the students would be able to focus on the colored pages to hone in on summarizing their learning.
By being able to provide ALL of these students with equal color-coding opportunities, it allows each student an equitable starting point for success and helps to eliminate stigmas or embarrassments that students sometimes feel when they need extra support. I am hopeful that this color-coded organization tactic will help each and every one of my students grow and find understanding in our class regardless of their past educational experiences or learning challenges.
Thank you in advance for your support and for helping to make our classroom organizational dreams come true.
