My Project
I teach at a Title I school where more than 50% of my students live at or below the federal poverty guidelines. My pre-k students are eager to learn and always show up with smiles on their faces! They deserve to have every chance at a successful education, and the experiences they have creating art are integral to their journey.
A paint easel in preschool is used to allow children to freely paint and express their creativity through large-scale movements, developing fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and promoting imaginative play while standing up and reaching on a vertical surface.
It's a great tool for open-ended art exploration and can be used with various paint mediums and tools like brushes, sponges, and rollers.
Painting also develops early literacy skills. Preschoolers make marks on a page to show their ideas or thoughts. They begin to understand how symbols can stand for other things–--this is a house and this is me. These foundational understandings help prepare them for understanding the marks in a book are words that stand for something else.
My goal is to give students a safe space to create, explore, and learn using a variety of art mediums. Painting can provide a great emotional outlet for a child. A child can use the easel to express whatever emotions he’s feeling, with large movements or small ones, fast movements or slow ones. Painting on the art easel also allows my students to express their creativity and create their own original masterpieces!
This is only made possible by grants and donations as we have very limited funding. These basic paint supplies will allow the students to express themselves creatively and learn new and interesting techniques when making art!
