My Students
I teach in Collinsville Illinois. I have a classroom of 28 students. 30% of our population receives special education related services and a small percentage receive ELL services. I have students that come from a variety of different economic statuses. From poverty to well off, it doesn’t matter, my classroom runs like a family! The classroom is filled with compassion, respect, and appreciation for one another. I love my job because no one day is the same. Each day brings new learning experiences and challenges, but together we always push forward! Having the best interest of the students bring me to do this project.
Wanting the best for each and every student is always my goal.
With lots of research, contemplation, and planning I would like the classroom to have flexible seating. Flexible seating has been proven to motivate kids at a different level, engage kids in academics, and to allow students to be comfortable in their learning environment. With many options for seating I truly believe my classroom will SOAR!
My Project
Flexible seating is a variety of classroom seats that are available for the students to use each day. Flexible seating provides countless opportunities for kids that the everyday desk cannot. Giving the students a choice of where to sit makes them feel empowered by having some control over their learning environment. Everyone like a little control and when you are empowered you are more engaged!
Flexible seating helps students mature and grow physically and emotionally in the educational setting.
Seats that provide movement are linked to higher academic performance. Seats that are not uniform, like the traditional classroom desk, also help kids develop a sense of community, improve communication skills, and also improves their problem solving skills. With the option to choose your very own comfortable seat, children are forced to take turns and use reasoning skills with their peers.
Last, but not least, flexible seating provides FUN in education! When children are having fun they will be committed to their learning. On top of my classroom management skills, flexible seating will provide the opportunity for my students to reach their highest academic performance. I want what is best for my students and I am convinced through research and data that flexible seating is the "WAY TO GO"!
