This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school, I know my students face several challenges both in and out of the classroom. All of my students have been identified with special needs such as autism, developmentally delays, intellectual disabilities, language impairments, and/or deaf and hard of hearing. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking for the best classroom tools to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My early childhood special education students are very creative and full of energy.
They like to observe, play, and explore new materials. A typical day in our class is based on learning through play. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth. I am hoping to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
All the rainbow bins will help my students to work on color recognition, color grouping and matching. A great way to encourage this color learning process is using these colorful bins to incorporate hands on and hands and eye coordination, which are essentials for brain development at this stage. My students will use these bins to sort different manipulatives by color. Also, the bins will help the classroom staff to keep the room organized and clean. Having different bins and containers where we can organize all the different materials will make it easier for everyone to divide the materials by activity, areas in the classroom, and sanitize-non-sanitize.
The organization of classroom materials by sorting all the materials by color allow students to retrieve them quickly, which helps to decrease unwanted behavior.
Proper room arrangement provides predictably, which is essential for students because students thrive when they are in a comfortable learning environment. These materials will make the difference daily.
