My Students

I believe every child deserves the opportunity for an excellent education, and I am proud to partner with my school, other educators, families, and community leaders to strive toward this goal. I teach in a high poverty school zone in which 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. These amazing students need additional support because most of them come from low-income single family households of which many have little to no support or resources. Despite some of the challenges they face in and around their environment, every year my students come to school excited, full of life, and eager to learn.

As the 2016 and 2019 Teacher of the Year as well as an alumni of Metro Atlanta Teach for America, I choose to continue to significantly impact the life trajectories of students in our region’s high-need communities.

My Project

I feel that if organization is modeled then students will be organized too. I chose white binders in this project so that students would be able to personalize their materials and feel welcomed in our classroom. For example, students will be able to add pictures of family members or their favorite animal if they like to the front of their binder. The pencil pouches give them a place to always have a pencil or colored pencils to complete their assignments.

Being organized is very important for my students and me.

If they learn it early enough, it will be easier for them later on. It will be harder for them to loose papers, more often they will do their homework and the whole learning community will benefit. Some of them do not realize it until they try it. Let's give them a chance to try it.
