This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a Grade 3 Special Education Teacher at a Title I school. We are currently under state receivership - meaning we are closely monitored and student success is tracked. We work hard every day to help our students succeed and thrive. It is difficult at times to work in these conditions - low socioeconomic status community, state receivership, and longer hours. But- I grew up in, and love this community and am committed to helping us grow and become the school district that I know we can!
I plan on using all of the games on my wish list to make indoor recess- due to rough New England Weather- more enjoyable and enriching for my students.
These games also provide an opportunity for students to use the social skills that they have learned.
Living in New England is definitely a challenge at times when it comes to recess. Snow and rain can cause recess to be held indoors, which can be challenging to find a variety of games and activities. I do, though, feel very strongly that students need a few minutes to relax and rest their brains. The games on my list, including Jenga, Uno, and checkers, would provide more choices for activities during these indoor recess periods, as well as provide an opportunity to practice the social skills learned.
