My students need markers, scissors, and a labelmaker to create a motivating reading corner with bean bags, and an organized shelf.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Open a 7th grade science book and the information can confuse an adult. Now try to read the same book when you are only in 2nd grade. That's what my students face every time they open a textbook. Having more opportunities and reasons to read will improve their reading of textbooks too.
My students are wonderful but are often the over looked students.
Growing up in rough neighborhoods, poor families, and lots of bad influences has caused so many of my students to already get into trouble and become discarded by society. Many others just struggle with catching up with information they missed for so many reasons. Many of my students can't afford their basic school supplies, but I never let a student go without. For many of my students a quiet, comfortable place to read doesn't exist.
My Project
Students will create a colorful, organized reading corner. Using art supplies such as construction paper, markers, scissors, label makers, and stencils, students will create representations of their favorite stories to decorate the corner. Bean bags will give a comfy place to read the book they've picked from the organized bookshelf or magazine section. Electronic resources will be available on the 5 flash drives. By being part of the creation, students will create a personal connection to reading.
Being able to read is essential to any career.
However, reading is lost too often in the chaos of the technology world. A good start to any education is reading, but we need a good place to read in the classroom.
