My Students

Outside of school, most of my students aren't encouraged to read. Reading isn't an activity valued in their homes. By providing high interest books, I try to show my students that reading is a valuable and fun activity.

Currently, 82% of my students receive a free or reduced price lunch.

That means 82% of my students are living in homes that struggle to make ends meet. My students may be racially and culturally diverse, but they all truly want to learn. With the help of interesting books, I can make that happen.

My Project

My students struggle with reading comprehension, and when they don't have interesting books, they just don't read. Providing them with books that they will enjoy will help students form good reading habits and improve their reading skills. Reading also helps students build their vocabularies.

Because of budget issues, teachers in my building did not receive any supply money this school year.

Without grants like this, my students will go without necessities such as these books.
