Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The skill to compose and edit well crafted sentences and paragraphs is very difficult for English Language Learners as well as students with learning deficits. These students hear in their minds what they want to say but are unable to assimilate their thoughts on to paper.

Our school is located in Northern California within Silicon Valley.

We are in a low income area which struggles to receive funding for basic school supplies and materials, let alone technology that is common and used in schools within our surrounding area. Technology of any kind is often unfamiliar to many of my students. My goal as their teacher is to provide them the best resources and every opportunity to enhance and motivate their academic goals and successes. The limited technology that I have been able to introduce into my classroom has proven to benefit, motivate and excite my students to learn and prepare them for a successful future.

My Project

The Apple Computer has a multitude of built-in educational modules to enhance the learning experience for all students. Students with learning deficits can benefit greatly from the “Accessibility” feature built into the Apple Computer. Visually impaired students can quickly and easily enlarge script to meet their visual needs. English Language Learners will benefit from the "Text to Speech" feature where students can compose a sentence or paragraph; hear it repeated to them as written; then allows the student to make the appropriate corrections. To enhance learning opportunities for all students the Apple Computer has a built-in "App Store" where students can find resources and tools to support and reinforce their learning. The Apple Computer makes learning fun and engaging as students can create Podcasts and movies to share with other students and family members. The Apple Computer can bring the world into my classroom.

The Apple Computer with its multitude of applications and modules is a unique learning resource that benefits every student.

This technology is opening the door to a world of learning opportunities and experiences that my students would not otherwise be exposed to. This opportunity would allow me as their teacher to provide my students a level playing field as they strive to meet their academic and personal dreams for their future.
