My Students

I've always believed that readers become leaders yet I have students who claim that they hate to read. Help me continue to turn my reluctant readers into rabid readers by donating some fascinating, hard-to-put down books to our classroom library.

My 7th grade students attend a PA public middle school serving students in grades 6,7, and 8.

Our language arts classes consist of all levels of learners. We have a mix of gifted, regular education, and special education students. Students might live in a rural, suburban, or urban area so we have quite a diverse mix of students. However, our district believes that all students can learn and become successful in the 21st century.

My Project

My students will be able to read these books in both the classroom and at home. We believe the best way to improve reading is for students to read. Twice a week, students have reading time during an enrichment period. From the wide variety of books, students will learn about the joy of reading a novel and also get to be inspired by the lives of others. We often choose a story from Chicken Soup for the Soul to share at the start or end of class. These life lessons have proved to be inspiration to students who also have life challenges to overcome. These books will be used in a variety of ways but rest assured that they will be used.

Teachers usually do not like it when their students fight.

However, I love it when my students fight and argue over books. (Luckily, we are good about maintaining a waiting list!) If donors decide to fund these books for our classroom, they will be read, fought over, discussed, laughed at, and cried over. Please consider contributing to creating life-long readers in a new generation of students. Your help and kindness will not be forgotten.
