Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are in the era of test test test! My students feel the strain as well as I do. We are expected to assess every little thing we do, and then graph or document it in some way.
I have two classes of Dual Language students.
Each class is required to learn how to read, write, and do math in English and Spanish at a 5th grade level. They are hard working, motivated and eager to learn. They enjoy school, however with the constant demands of standardized tests and assessments, they can become overwhelmed with the work. Our school is in a low income earthy deserve every opportunity they can get.
My Project
I am in charge of two groups of students, 22 in each group. They are expected to be proficient in reading, writing and math by the end of the year. We are expected to assess everything we do, to show progress. This becomes very time consuming. If we had the Quizdom Q2's in our class we would greatly cut down the time it took to assess a lesson, and we would have virtually instant feedback as to what we needed more work on. Our class would become more efficient in our process of becoming literate in two languages.
My students do not always receive a fighting chance.
Many believe that learning two languages is not a good idea, they feel that they should be focused on only English . My students are out to prove those people wrong. This small piece of technology would give them the edge that they need to push forward.
