My Students
Holding a book is grand but my students also need Nook readers to support their learning goals of reading with purpose.
The students come into school every day eager to learn.
My class is one of four kindergarten classrooms in a Title I school with close to 600 students. It has often been said that our school is a hidden treasure and for that reason it can be difficult to locate. Because we are tucked into a neighborhood we do not receive as much community support to fund classroom needs as many prominent schools. Many of our teachers seek funding for materials or purchase items independently.
My Project
The Nook readers will give my current and future students the opportunities to read different types of books and read with purpose. Learning to read with purpose is important for them. They learn that turning the pages of a book is not the same as reading with the intent to have fun, to discover something new, or to be persuaded by another person's opinion.
With the storage capabilities of the Nook readers, the students will have access to different books on the virtual bookshelves.
Your support will mean that my Kindergarten students will have access to various types of books in different formats.
The world will continue to move toward more digital resources and I want to send my students to first grade with as many purposeful experiences as possible. Thank you for your consideration.
